Droitwich Shield

Moseley won the Droitwich Shield at Stourbridge on
Sunday, May 16 by winning all 3 games against Fulford.

Moseley last won this competition in 1997.

The Winning Moseley Team:
Richard Sadler, John Pugh, Dan Downes, Dean
McLeod, Matt Pates and Chris Heeley and Moseley Captain, Craig Graham.

The final was played on a bright sunny day which was slightly chilly out of the sun with a cool breeze blowing. Richard Sadler and John Pugh won by 1 hole against Matt Burge and Nigel Taylor. This result hinged on a miracle shot by Richard Sadler. All square coming down the 18th, the Moseley drive was tucked away on the right edge of the fairway, behind a tree and apparently blocked out, Fulford were in the open down the left. Richard hit a low controlled fade under the tree which swung into the centre of the fairway, from where it bounded up the slope and rolled onto the green, coming to rest two feet from the hole and a winning birdie. Chris Healey and Matt Pates won 3 & 2 against Anthony Hill and David Cashmore. Dean McLeod and Dan Downes won by 1 hole aginst Paul Walters and Chris Nugent. This also involved an amazing stroke involving a shot on the 16th, from under a tree by the clubhouse. Having cleared the patio of spectators, the result was a deflection on to the club roof and, after several ricochets and rebounds and a bounce off the patio, the ball ended up 10 feet from where it started, nestling in the flower bed and out of bounds! Moseley, therefore won 3-0. Neil Jenkinson, Stourbridge President, welcomed all the players and assisted Peter Adams, County President with the prize-giving. Richard Sadler thanked everyone on behalf of the players and commiserated with Fulford Heath on a result that was much closer than the points score suggests.
