Sustainability at Moseley Golf Club

MGC is aware of the importance of all aspects of the sustainability agenda and has been working to support it for some time.

The Club has a dual role - it can reduce its use of carbons and it can maintain and improve the large green space it owns in the middle of urban South Birmingham.

The Club has a a Sustainability Group which works to promote ideas within the Club. The Group includes Ian Warner, the Chair of the General Committee, Andy Davies, Head greenskeeper, Dr. Moray Anderson, B.Sc., Ph.D., F.R.E.S., F.R.S.B., CBiol., Consultant Chartered Biologist, the Office staff.

Green Charter

Queen’s Green Canopy Coppice

Members and families of members have contributed funds to plant 11 native British trees in a Coppice to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Completed and On-going Actions

Actions include:

60 saplings are being planted each year for three years
New bird and bat boxes have been made by members and erected in the grounds
Wildlife Trust has offered advice and support
A year long audit of birds is being carried out with the results being compared to the results of a similar survey in 1993
Energy saving light bulbs have been fitted throughout the clubhouse
A programme of upgrading windows to double glazing has begun.
Members are asked to move to using wooden or bamboo tees.
Golfers are asked not to use plastic tees on the lake hole
Three beehives have recently been installed on the course
